Tashi Wada's Duets LP is the first release from Saltern, his imprint distributed by Forced Exposure. Duets features a recording of Wada's series of string duos brilliantly realized by cellists Charles Curtis and Judith Hamann.

From Curtis' liner notes: "How far can we enter into a single moment, such that for that brief speck of time, for an instant, unison is registered? This would suggest a different sense of unison, as a state of complete integration hidden behind the disparity and change caused by the passing of time."

Edition of 425. Recorded by Tom Erbe and cut at 45 RPM by Rashad Becker. Pressed at RTI and housed in jackets with design by Marco del Rio and printed at Stoughton. Cover image by Marcia Hafif.

Includes unlimited streaming of Duets via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

about

"Beautiful set of psychedelic minimalism from the composer Tashi Wada, son of the legendary Yoshi Wada, on his own privately curated imprint in an edition of 425 copies: like his father Wada is obsessed by the brain scrambling properties of sustained tones and maximalist microtonal confusion and Duets is another massive entry in the modern minimalist canon. This one presents a thrilling series of string duets composed by Wada and realised by cellists Charles Curtis (a key La Monte Young interpreter) and Judith Hamann (who has worked with Oren Ambarchi, Jon Rose, Ilan Volkov and more). With tracks dated across 2006-2008, we move from intense, blurry deep-field investigations of the potential of single, slowly-fluctuating tones through the kind of power-sawing of Four Violins-era Tony Conrad, roaring universal soundings that combine the free space of East Bionic Symphonia with an ancient cultic vibe that could almost be an irradiated Third Ear Band and the massively time/space usurping kind of subliminal string theories that would creepy-crawl the here and now with all of the brain-dazzling mystery and power of a Folke Rabe. Elementally profound investigations into the disruptive vibratory potential of eternally singing strings, beautifully packaged and with liners from Curtis, this comes very highly recommended!" —Volcanic Tongue
